The Look Out  Discovery Centre

Words by Jemma Slevin

For budding scientists, The Look Out Discovery Centre offers hands-on science with over 90 activities which children of all ages can enjoy and learn from.

From launching a hydrogen rocket, playing with boats in the indoor stream or building a house with friends, there is bound to be something to spark your child’s imagination.

What I found most useful was that the activities and exhibits are organised in ‘zones’ which correspond with what your child may be learning about at school. This makes a visit to The Look Out easy to plan and help reinforce in a practical way what your child is learning at school and help them to experience how exciting science is. The zones are: Forces and Movement, Body and Perception, Light and Colour, Woodland and Water, and Built It.

There are some fantastic shows to look out for such as the Dinosaur Show this autumn that run on the weekends, and if you have pre-schoolers they’ll love the Toddler Days where they can get involved in arts and crafts story telling and face painting.

Check the website for specific shows and for the toddler days.
